Website Redesign or Rebuild: Which Does Your Business Need?
Redesign means preserve what works
If the CMS, URLs, content and technical foundation are healthy, a redesign can focus on presentation and conversion without discarding useful assets.
Rebuild when the foundation is the problem
A rebuild is often cleaner when the site is difficult to update, structurally confused, slow because of legacy tooling, or cannot support the services and functionality the business now needs.
Protect search equity
Inventory current URLs and search data before changing them. Preserve valuable content, map redirects, update internal links and test canonicals and indexing controls before launch.
Use data if you have it
Search Console and analytics can show which pages attract impressions, clicks and conversions. A redesign should not casually delete the pages already doing useful work.

Evidence to gather before deciding
Review Search Console and analytics where available. Identify pages that receive impressions, clicks, enquiries or useful backlinks. Record current URLs before deleting content.
Migration example
If an existing service page ranks and generates enquiries but the homepage and mobile UX are dated, a redesign should normally preserve that useful URL and improve the surrounding experience. Replacing it with a new URL for no reason introduces avoidable risk.
Migration risk checklist
- Inventory current URLs
- Identify pages with traffic, links or conversions
- Map old URLs to new equivalents
- Use permanent redirects where URLs change
- Update internal links and canonicals
- Preserve analytics and Search Console
- Test forms and tracking
- Keep the replacement noindex until launch checks pass
