Check the import pathway early
Not every vehicle is eligible for import. Before purchase or shipment, the buyer should check whether the vehicle can be imported under an approved pathway and obtain the required approval. The Australian Government explains the current vehicle import pathways and approval process on its vehicle importing guidance.
Importing may involve approval, shipping and border entry, biosecurity inspection or treatment, applicable duties and taxes, and state or territory registration requirements. Compliance and registration requirements can vary by vehicle and circumstance; confirm your position with the relevant authorities and qualified providers before committing.
Buyers remain responsible for their purchase decisions and for meeting applicable requirements. Start with the Australian Border Force import guidance and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry’s biosecurity requirements for vehicles and machinery.
